How long do you have to be self-employed to get a mortgage?

The majority of mortgage lenders will ask you to supply at least two years worth of self-employed accounts, whilst some are prepared to consider applicants with only one year of accounts, and others insisting on 3 years. Many mortgage providers will only accept accounts that have been prepared by an accountant, and some providers will request that the accountant is chartered or certified.
